Brainwavz is a lesser known company that makes a variety of headphones. The M2 headphones we took a look at a while back were not bad but we also didn’t find them to be fantastic either. Will the M4’s change our minds? Read on for our full take on Brainwavz’s new in-ears!
- Clear & detailed sound
- Vocals and guitars well reproduced
- Sleek and stylish
The Brainwavz M4 comes in a bright pink box containing the headphones, a hard carry case, various silicone tips, a pair of Comply foam tips, and a cable clip.
Design and Build Quality
The M4’s are definitely pretty well built. Each earbud is packed in a cylindrical metal enclosure with a glossy surface. On the tip of each earbud is a small hole. Thin braided cable, coated with a layer of plastic, is pretty sturdy and manages not to tangle much. The L shaped headphone jack is also quite solid. The overall design of the headphones is nothing much to talk about. There isn’t much to fault about it but it also isn’t an exciting or great design.
Sound reproduction is similar to what we’ve experienced with past Brainwavz headphones. The emphasis is definitely on the bass and in that process you do lose a bit of clarity. There is some decent instrument separation but soundstage is pretty minimal and barely noticeable. Vocals can be considered prominent but not bright. There’s a good sub bass and an okay mid bass which lacks “thump.” The sound is better described as resonant and rumbly.
The Comply foam tips are rough and porous, not smooth and glossy like the type we prefer. This rough type can become uncomfortable after a while but it does still offer good fit. Noise isolation with these tips is pretty much non existent.
The Brainwavz M4 are “just another pair of in-ear headphones.” This isn’t to say that they aren’t good, but they don’t really bring anything exciting to the table. The design passes with good build quality and audio reproduction that is pretty average. While the M4 aren’t totally bad, there are definitely more appealing options to be had out there.
- Solid construction
- Foam tips provide good fit
- Mediocre sound quality
- Not very comfortable
